Life insurance policies providing coverage for suicide - Part 1
By admin on February 24th, 2010There are different insurance policies in the case of a suicide and suicide attempt.
Coverage for suicide attempts
Health insurance is the relevant type of insurance for person who survived a suicide attempt without a permanent injury. If such person requires psychological help, health insurance will pay for it. If person survives a suicide attempt but sustains injuries that that require long-term care or are permanent, most health insurance companies will not cover the treatments. All doctor’s or hospital bills, rehabilitation costs and other medical necessities are to be paid for by the person who attempted suicide.
Coverage for suicide
Most life insurance policies have a suicide clause. Either death resulting from suicide is not covered at all or is covered only after 2 years have passed since the date of the policy’s purchase. In other words, the desperate soul who buys an insurance policy and then immediately commits suicide is misguided: the life insurance policy will not pay if the suicide is committed immediately after its purchase.
